Every Thursday Night at Jazz Minds Art & Cafe
1661 Kapiolani Blvd, Honolulu – Across from 24 Hour Fitness
Combining the classics of yesterday and today The Bentos are a compilation of musical talent unlike anywhere else. From originals to covers, they execute flawlessly to bring music to your ears that will make the night memorable. Originally assembled by drummer Mark Lindberg (Mantra), they have evolved with the helping hands of pianist Ethan Capone (The Deadbeats), tenor sax Jason Gay, bassist Jon Hawes and vocalist Jonah Manunu (Prolific Unknowns). Their songs range from jazz classic’s like Joshua Redman’s “Jazz Crimes” (see video below) and Steely Dan’s “Black Cow” to today’s R&B and soul like D’Angelo’s “Brown Sugar”, Mayor Hawthorne’s “I Wish that It Would Rain” and even Cee-Lo Green’s “F*** You”. Each musician/artist is sure to please with their solo performances as well. Even the vocalist, Jonah, adds a twist shifting from melodic sounds to pulsating rhymes on the microphone. Their versatility has been displayed in numerous collaborations with Hip-Hop and Funk Bands (again, see video below). Whatever the situation demands, The Bentos deliver a great night of entertainment. Shows start at 9:30. Typically a $7 Cover Charge. Contact markelindberg@gmail.com for booking information.
